ANIX, BVXV, OVID, KRYS, CGTX — Biotech Showcase Conference 2023

Note: There are more companies presenting, the Agenda on the website is harder to navigate and there are MANY companies who are not public who are presenting. I will continue to add more tickers to the list as I find them. This is happening during a busy week for Biotech stocks, as JPM is also hosting a biotech conference for their clients at the same time. The JPM is not highlighted on the Catalyst Calendar because it is an event specifically for investors with JPM and, subjectively, more meant as a reassurance to investors that their money is in the right place and not as a persuasive “invest your money here” type pitch.

On the other hand, the Biotech Showcase is more of an event where people (and a subsect of “people” being investors and traders), who are looking for the next big thing. A very strong presentation could have the effect of bringing volume into these companies all in a day or two. Therefor, the “Event” traders among the group might be monitoring volume and pouncing if it looks like traders are flooding into one of the companies here.

Also, the “runup” traders of the group might view this event as something that could create positive buzz ahead of time. Using the 1 and 4 hour technical charts (even just the MACD), traders would be able to see the points when the buyers started outcompeting the sellers, pushing the price up going into the event. These traders are “buy the rumor, sell the news” type people, so companies who have seen an aggressive price increase in the weeks leading up to the event might see a lot of selling pressure dur to the profit taking of the Runup Traders.

The “Aftgerglow” traders have something to consider here, but it might not be as strong as many other catalysts we highlight. There will be information presented during this event that may persuade investors to scoop up shares. However, it is not an event where companies will be presenting NEW information. They will need to highlight data that maybe the market hasn’t put a lot of value on, and show why that data is so valuable (data being anything from future products in the pipeline to current products sales, to potential partnerships, etc.).
